A month ago, an error message appeared on my site, telling me that line 142 in my home page has an error in it. But since then I have not been able to enter the site as an administrator to work on it. I am unable to imagine what is wrong. Please help if you can, Patgroves.com.

  • Hi patgroves,

It seems the plugin, pressbackup, is having the issue.
Login to your FTP and locate to wp-content/plugins/ and rename the plugin folder to something else. It will deactivate the plugin and you should be able to access your site again.

    Hi again,

I mean the plugin folder name, “pressbackup” to something else, NOT the “plugins” folder.
    Hope it didn’t confuse you.

    Hi Ryan,
Thanks for your help. If you have another moment, what is my FTP and how do I log into it? Thanks again. Pat

FTP is a way to access files on the server where your site is hosted. You need to get the FTP access information from your hosting company and also set up an FTP client on your local computer:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients

You need to contact your hosting company and/or go into your cpanel (if you have one).
    You will need:
    Server address
    Username
    Password
    Port (usually 21)
and of course ftp software (filezilla is free and common).

    Hi patgroves,

I would recommend Filezilla and you can download here.
    http://filezilla-project.org/

You can contact your hosting company for the FTP login details.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Hi Ryan,
I got an FTP number from my host. Then I got the download to filezilla you recommended. Now I don’t see where to put the FTP information into the Filezilla document. Where should I find that? Thanks in advance.
    Pat

Thanks to you at wp and to my host I got onto Filezilla FTP, but can’t find the right file to delete. I don’t see either a pressback up or plugins folder. I wonder if I’m looking in the right place? –Pat

The plugin should be in public_html/wp-content/plugins.

To be honest I got all the way to “public” but then could not find the other letters of the plug in. Are the letters all supposed to be on one line or are they located in two places on the site? Thanks for hanging in there. Pat

Sorry not quite sure what you mean.
Please see the screenshot below; it shows where the plugins folder is located.

Thank you for the screen picture. That’s a big help, because that’s what I’m not able to get when I’m on Filezilla. None of those wp files are visible. How do I access it, it isn’t obvious on my screen.

Have you connected to your server? You need to login to your hosting server by entering the correct login details at the top of FileZilla. Please see the screenshot here.
    http://s15.postimage.org/oudku4ucr/filezilla.jpg

You need the Host, Username and Password. If you are not sure of those details, ask your hosting company. They will let you know.

Once longged in your server with FileZilla, you should be able to find the plugins folder as I showed you in the previous message.

If you are still not sure, let me know.
