I’m a student worker and I was trying to change the theme of this site and after about 2 weeks of multiple attempts to get something this professor liked he finally agreed to “SimpleMagazine.” I ran it through TC to make sure there weren’t any major red flags and it checked out. After several hours of trying to get everything ship shape he calls me and tells me that there are links at the bottom and asked them to be removed.
I wish to stress that I have no idea what I’m doing, everything that I have accomplished has been through luck. And no one on this campus has any idea how to work wordpress.
So I tried and this happened: http://sbaer.uca.edu/index.php?theme_license=true and now it will not let me get to the login admin page to change the theme back and fix everything. Please help.
tldr: I broke it! I broke the internet! All of it. please help. can’t get the admin page.
I’m sorry but your chosen theme is not released under GPL. Non GPL products are not welcome in the WordPress community. Official WordPress policy states that all plugins and themes that are publicly released are required to adhere to http://wordpress.org/about/gpl/
Any support requests for non-GPL products are usually ignored, in the interests of supporting the community and its freedoms. Also, given this particular theme provider, I would strongly recommend that read this article and consider changing to a theme from a reputable source asap.
well that’s the thing. I don’t want this theme. I”m just trying to get to the admin page:
this happens there.
I’m not sure what I’ve done.
Try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. That should get you back in. Then delete this crippleware theme and get your prof to chose a decent free theme from http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
I’m honestly not 100% sure what that is. but I’ll try and figure it out.
I might have deleted the file. The absolute panic that consumed me when this happened and all…
But thank you for taking the time to help such a lost cause. I appreciate it.. and probably I’ll be back to this thread in a moment… :/
ok, assuming that we don’t have FTP installed? Or anything like it?. What’s my other course of action?
If you don’t have ftp, how did you install WordPress in the first place. Without FTP, your only other option to to start editing the database tables. FTP is far easier. Trust me on this…
