• I backed up my site before I left a host. Now I cant find it in WP. I need to download it to my new host. I am really confused. When I log in to WP it doesn’t show my site or any of the work I have done. How do I retrieve this information and all the work I have done on it? It is backed up on my computer. Can I just upload it to another host?

  • What do you mean by “when I log into WP?”
The wordpress.org website has nothing to do with your actual WordPress website, that is standalone.

Can I just upload it to another host?

Yes, you can upload all your backup files and will need to import your database to the new hosting plan (usually using PHPMyAdmin) as well.

If you left a host and stopped paying for it etc, then you probably won’t have access to your hosting control panel or to WordPress any more.

You needed to make a copy of your website before cancelling the old host.

But if as you say you did backup your site and saved it on your own computer, great! As @doubleedesign said, you can now upload it to the new hosting.

Can we double check what you backed up?

    1) Do you have ALL the site’s files?

    2) Do you have a backup of the MySQL database?

    3) What method did you use to do the backup? Did you use a backup plugin? If so, which one?
