I am having trouble with the all around basic functions of wordpress. I am trying to learn this program from scratch. I am having trouble with the understanding of creating pages and post and finding where that information is going. What I am trying to do, is creating a website that is My personal resume. I create menus like My Resume, About me, Volunteer Activity etc….but when I click on these menus I create, I get a messages that says this..
    Nothing Found
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.

I am not sure why this happens. I think I am just getting confused in placing the right information in the proper places to get a fully function website or in my case a fully functioned electronic resume. I wish I could speak to someone on the phone briefly about my circumstances, but its all good. I just need help and if anyone is willing to communicate with through the phone it would be awesome. Other than that, I just feel lost right now with the overall application. Hope someone can help me. Thank you!

  • Something like a resume would usually go on a page. Perhaps these will help you with how Pages and Menus work –

We don’t offer phone support, but are happy to answer questions here.

You will create various pages that cover different aspects of your resume.
Your theme will have at least ONE menu, find it in Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
Create a menu if you need to, assign the location of this menu.
NOW you can add your pages to this menu.
You also must remember to SAVE your menu.

Hey, Thank you guys! Currently, I am reading and watching videos to help me understand what WordPress can do and its functions. It’s a bit overwhelming. The last couple days have been an overload of information. Does anyone know where I could find some useful sources of information for beginners? I would appreciate any help that you could offer. Thank you!

@johnny Bass – there is lots of info online – many tutorials and videos. Quality varies a lot and since WP is constantly being improved, older info may not be totally relevant. But here’s a few you could check out:

I have wordpress 4.1 downloaded to my computer using MAMP as the localhost. I learned to do this through Lynda.com from Morton. These videos are helping. It is allowing me to experiment with wordpress without having it live to the web (I don’t fully understand this concept yet).
When I have figured out the basics and have built my blog/website using the localhost server, would I then have to sign up with a web hosting service like hostgator for example, to transfer all the content to make it live? How would I transfer this content from wordpress in local host to an official website like my .coms I already own?
I am trying to explain myself, but as you can see, right now I am not sure what I am talking about..lol sorry.

Sure, no problem with lots of questions – that’s why we’re here :)!

It’s a bit technical to move a site, but here’s the info:

But, as you might guess, there are plugins that can do most of the work for you – I’ve heard good things about both of these:

I will have more questions later.

My goal is to build a blog. I want to make sure that is it mobile friendly. It has a intuitive way of communicating with subscribers. I would want them to be able to send me pictures with a brief story to me. Also, leave comments, be able to watch videos that I create. I also want to have a section of bloopers videos (not mine), but I would have to get them from other sites like youtube. I am concerned because I want to make sure that it would be legal to do so. I think as long as I mention the title and publisher I should be good.

Are there any plugins that would help me for this vision of my site?
Mobile friendly, a way to have a brief intro about my site for first time visitors, Simple ways of communicating between me and the user (pictures, stories, comments, uploading my own videos ect)

And what about using others content from youtube?

Also, am I able to transfer videos say from my Premier Pro and Imovie onto my site or do I have to use say youtube?

    Hi –
Most themes these days are mobile friendly – it’s often called “responsive” in the theme description. So that’s pretty easy.

You can use a plugin to manage subscribers – JetPack is one option which many people use – it has a lot of other cool features. Or there are other plugins too – search the plugins page here:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/

Usually a good idea to look at the reviews and support forum for that plugin, and how recently it’s been updated – to get some sense of it. (Though do take reviews with a grain of salt 🙂 ).

You can certainly do the rest with basic WP content – pages, posts, videos, etc.

I want to make sure that it would be legal to do so. I think as long as I mention the title and publisher I should be good.

You really need to check the copyright on any video that isn’t yours – just giving credit doesn’t necessarily make it legal to use. (And that’s not a WP question – we can’t really give legal advice here :)!)

Here’s some info on posting videos via embed – the easiest way to do it:

Is there anyway to change the order of pages? The pages at the top of my site need to be change into the correct order.

Yes, you can change the order of pages.
From Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
    Select your menu.
You can now move your pages around.
Remember to SAVE the changes to your menu.

I would like to create a contact form. In this form I would want the user to fill out name, email, upload an image, and have a description or story of that image.
Now, would I be able to use the plugin contact form 7 to get these fields?
Or should I be using the premium plugin gravity forms to get these fields. If so gravity forms, would I be able to get the personal license for $39 a year to get the fields I need?
Also, is the plugin Flamingo the best option for me to store the users name/email or any other information when they contact me for later use?
I also plan on selling products down the road. Is Woocommerce plugin my best option?

Hi Johnny, could you please create a new thread on a new topic – just makes the forums work better.

    You can do so here:
