Apologies, I am not at all tech savvy, please bear with me.
It’s difficult to define the issue.
I write a post, then go through at the end and insert the hyperlinks.
Sometimes they will all appear to have been applied (i.e. you can see they are in blue and underlined and the cursor turns to a hand pointer) BUT if I subsequently edit the post, some or all MAY get knocked off/disappear.
I have tried adding www at the start of the url just in case.
I’ve also tried adding the link without the link text then editing the link and adding the link text afterward.
I’ve just done a test where I just add link after link- sometimes it looks like it’s worked but then you update the post and it drops off.
At first, it looked like it didn’t like having link text added, but I just did one and it worked. No obvious logic to any of it 🙁
Worse of all for me is when I’ve added many links and they all seem to work. Then I get a call from a sponsor saying ‘why didn’t you link to me’ when I did. At the end of my tether!

Does the text remain in the post and just the link is inactive? Do you have a post where you added a link and now it’s gone? And also a post where the link is working?
Yes, that’s exactly right.
Here is the post where I was called to ask me why there wasn’t a link – I remember re-doing it 3 times before it ‘stuck’. The link is in the 1st paragraph after the main intro and it’s for ‘Travel With Kat’.

This is the test I did earlier, where I followed the same principle, first few were without link text, then I did some with link text. The first few worked OK then it became ad hoc.
The post that has multiple links and is causing a big headache is in draft mode and has lots of content – if you do need it, let me know and I’ll add password protection to it and send the link.

I don’t see any problems with the “Travel With Kat” link; seems to be working ok. I tried “hyperlink” for the pwd on the second page you linked but it didn’t work. Ah, “Hyperlink” worked. On that page I see links down through “Now try next…”. The next two “Maybe with TRAVEL WITH KAT” and the first and last “BREW DOG” lines don’t contain links. The middle “BREW DOG” does. I can’t think of anything other than a plugin conflict that might cause what you’re seeing, and even that’s a long shot. The fact that it’s intermittent makes it especially hard to troubleshoot. Are you adding the links in Visual mode or Text mode?

Yes, the Travel With Kat link works now, this is the first one that dropped off as far as I know, i.e. I added the link then got told it wasn’t working, and had to re-do 3 times.
The 2nd page – each line SHOULD have a link – I followed the same procedure each time – as you say, not all lines contain links, but they should. I cannot see that I am doing anything different each time.
Everything is being done in visual mode.
Sorry, I can see it’s difficult to troubleshoot, the intermittent nature is indeed a pain.

Looks like you removed the test page. I’ve checked other forums and see a couple of reports of similar issues but nothing exactly the same, and no specific remedies. The usually suggested troubleshooting process is to disable all your plugins and switch to a default WP theme to see if the problem is still there. If it’s not, switch back to the original theme, check for the problem again, then reactivate your plugins one at a time, checking for the issue after each one is activated. However, since your issue is intermittent and doesn’t always occur, or we don’t know the circumstances under which it occurs, the above process could take some amount of time and may, or may not, give accurate results. At this point I’m not sure what else to suggest. I’ve never seen or heard of this issue pertaining to the Hueman theme.
You mentioned you were adding all the links in Visual mode. Is that using the editor Link button? And after you enter a link, if you preview the post, is the link there? After you enter the link, if you switch to the Text editor, does the link show the full anchor tag including the URL and target?

Thanks for the guidance on the plugins – I may well have to go down that road, although it would be hard to draw meaningful conclusions for the reasons you state. It would also be rather cumbersome for me for several reasons.
I may start with just the last few plugins I installed as I’m sure the issue wasn’t there at the beginning.
Re: your final few questions – tonight, I will set up a better test page and work through them.

Thanks for that extensive test post. Very helpful. I’ll be happy to inform you that you are not an idiot. In fact, I was able to reproduce what you’ve described. I’ve never run across that since I do all my work in the Text mode. I ran a few tests and the workaround I found was to enter your link text first, then highlight it, then click the Insert/edit link button, click Options if needed, fill in the URL and click Add Link. I also found this WP Core Trac issue ticket related to the Inline Link Editor. Not exactly the same issue but might be related. It’s supposed to be fixed in v4.6 which is due for release mid-August.

When I’m home later, I’ll put your workaround into practice, and look at the WP Core Trac issue too.
I’m assuming you’ll now close this thread, so if I notice further issues with hyperlinks, I’ll open a new thread – I trust that’s the correct ‘protocol’!
