 * How’s it going guys, I’m having an issue that I just can’t seem to solve despite
   my best efforts.
 * I’m trying to insert a link into my blog post, which seems simple enough, but
   no matter what I do, WordPress always slightly changes the link that I enter
   when I update the post, and then the link doesn’t work.
 * The link in question is: file:///Users/jerinoberdorf/Desktop/Ke$ha%20-%20Crazy%
   20Kids%20(Obi%20Rework).mp3
    (It’s a class project to remix a song we don’t like)
 * I simply copy and paste that link into WordPress and use the “link” button. I’ve
   tried both using the http:/ before the link and not using it. When I update the
   post after doing this, the word “file” and the semicolon are both removed. I’ve
   tried typing them both in manually, and it still will not work, as WordPress
   just changes it back. I’m at a complete loss as to how to get this to work. Can
   anyone help me?
 * My blog, for reference (broken link is in the first post): [http://musicproductionqualms.wordpress.com/](http://musicproductionqualms.wordpress.com/)
 * Thanks.

 * Hi,
 * Firstly, this is the support forum for wordpress.org, not .com. The latter is
   a hosted service, whereas everyone here hosts their own instance of WP. [Click here for wordpress.com support](http://en.support.wordpress.com/).
 * But as you mention this is a class project, I’ll see if the moderators won’t
   mind me providing the quickest answer.
 * You are trying to achieve the impossible. Imagine if any website you could access
   with your browser had access to files on your computer… that wouldn’t be a very
   secure state of affairs! So wordpress.com does not allow paths beginning with:
   `
   file://` because your browser wouldn’t allow your wordpress.com site to access
   files held locally on your computer anyway.
 * The only way to hyperlink from your website to the file is by sticking the file
   on a web server, and perhaps the most convenient way for you to do that is to
   [use wordpress.com for that too](http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/).
 * Good luck! And please don’t try and respond further here or the moderators will
   definitely give me a ticking off.
