• Resolved PPIHC

Since downloading 4.1, the hyperlink function in the WP editor has not worked. When the text to be linked is selected and the hyperlink icon is clicked, the page locks up and won’t scroll up or down. No dialogue box appears to input the desired destination.

Our site uses a custom theme, and that could be the cause, but I am not an expert and don’t know how to resolve this issue.

Our site uses a custom theme, and that could be the cause

to find out if that’s the cause, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen Theme for a moment using FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

I can confirm this bug. When text is selected and after the hyperlink button in the post editor is clicked then screen gets freezed and you cant scrool on the page either.

I activated the Twenty Fifteen theme and the problem still persisted.

@altkommein – if it were a WP bug, these forums would be overrun with people having this issue. If you need help fixing your site – please start your own thread as per the forum guidelines –

@ppihc – try deactivating ALL your plugins and switching to twentyfifteen with them off. Be sure you’ve cleared any caching on your site, server and browser as well.

@wpyogi Thank you for the advice. Deactivating the plugins solved the problem without having to switch to the twenty fifteen theme, so that leads me to believe it is a plugin problem. I will activate them one at a time until I figure out which is the culprit. I sincerely appreciate your help on this matter.

    Thanks to all.

I just had the same problem and it was bug because I had no plugin installed. Then I noticed I had jetpack as the only plugin activated. I deactivated inner extensions of jetpack and deactivated jetpack too and this bug is gone. Not sure how the plugins are affecting TinyMCE editor.

Thanks my problem is solved too.

Cool, glad to hear you both have it solved :)!

This is really weird, but I narrowed it down to the specific plugin causing the issue. When you activate the Constant Contact Plugin for WordPress and authorize it for access to your Constant Contact account, it blocks you from adding hyperlinks through editor. I have no idea how that could happen, but that is what I narrowed it down to.
