I had the same issue and I pushed it through the ringer trying to figure it out. THen I ran my feed through feedburner.com and it suddenly worked in Hungryfeed.

According to the error it would seem that the feed just isn’t responding – possibly the server was down or you mis-typed the URL or something.
I’ve found that using Feedburner or another feed aggregator is a great solution for feeds that are unreliable, have funky character sets or have some other unusual issues. The aggregator will not only cache the feed, making it reliable. But they also tend to “neutralize” the source feed, convert any weird custom characters or formats and just generally make the feed more compatible.
HungryFEED relies on the WordPress RSS parsing engine (SimplePie) so it’s kinda limited by whatever feeds that will support.
