  • Have you tried using FTP or Cpanel to rename your plugin’s folder on the server –

IF that does not let you login, try renaming your active theme –

Make sure you do have a copy of a default theme in the themes folder.

I do not see a folder for plugins and in fact do not have any installed at this time.

I will try your second suggestion.

I have tried your suggestion, but no change is seen. My website still reads:
This website is temporarily unavailable, please try again later.

Sounds like the updated didn’t complete – so try a manual update:

I’m confused about the updating of the contents. by individual files, do you really mean to manually build each folder and then each file within the folder?

Also, i do not see the same content files. yikes.

Additionally, should I maintain your previous recommendation of marking thesis as thesis.HOLD?

    Thanks for the response.

Yes, keep the theme on hold. Basically, you just need to replace all files and folder EXCEPT wp-content, wp-config and .htaccess. And delete the old versions first – to be sure the new ones get uploaded properly. You don’t need to copy each file individually, no.

FYI the instructions on the link that you offered does suggest individual file upload, so that’s where things might be getting a little confusing. Thanks for sticking with me on this.

To the best of my knowledge, I have followed your instructions. I still do not see my website. Next best step….????

Did you continue with the rest of the steps:

The instructions you sent also recommended deleting the .maintenance file. It actually appears as a folder – so do I just delete the file within or the entire folder?

it also says: Lastly you should take a look at the wp-config-sample.php file, to see if any new settings have been introduced that you might want to add to your own wp-config.php.

Sorry – but I don’t know where either of those files are, nor do I read php and so don’t know if I’d be able to select settings. Can you direct?

BTW – if this is germaine, the site was seriously hacked over the last week, with 10 new users being added and a mess of things happening to the website.

Oh, how I wish I could just hit restore to 2 weeks ago and start clean from there.

THe next problem is that I still can’t get itno th eadmin pages for that wordpress account. I can’t proceed with out that access, it appears.

Looks like the site is working now? Are you able to login?

Thanks for the response. Because of a failed/partial upgrade of WordPress, some of the php files were not installed. My host site set back the clock and then I was able to upgrade.

Still have all the hacking issues to anticipate in the future, but am otherwise okay. Cheers.
