# Huge memory usage increase

 * Hello, my blog has been working fine for about four years but in the last few
   months I experienced a huge increase in memory usage. 64 MB used to be fine, 
   now I’m at the limit with 192 MB, the maximum allowed by my hosting plan after
   I had the memory available increased a couple of times.
 * During these months, I just updated WordPress and some plugins and the problems
   always came when nothing was updated, even several hours after I added a new 
   article. Basically I don’t understand what can cause such an increase.
 * The blog is [http://netmassimo.com](http://netmassimo.com) and it’s in Italian.
   The funny thing is that it’s a little network using the multisite functionality
   and when I had some problems the other blog at [http://english.netmassimo.com](http://english.netmassimo.com)
   worked fine. I guess the main site needs more memory than any other of the network.
   Is that so?
 * Any idea of what my problem can be? Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

 * WordPress should really never need more than 128 MB in extreme cases. I suspect
   a plugin may be pushing it over the edge.
 * Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one
   individually until you find the cause.
 * If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme
   to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

 * Thank you, James. I’ll look into it. Interesting what you’re saying about the
   theme though I never changed it since I started the blog. I guess a problem might
   emerge with new versions of WordPress.

 * Yeah, it’s possible an older theme or plugin could have had a memory leak triggered
   by something in a newer version of WordPress.
 * It’s why the beta releases are available months in advance, especially for plugin/
   theme developers to test their products. Sadly, not many do.

 * Well, the theme I’m using had very little updates in time so either it’s good
   and needs no updates or it’s been abandoned and it might give the leaks problems
   you mention. I’ll try to learn more about that.
 * Right now, I deactivated a widget with an e-Bay banner and things improved but
   maybe I was just a bit over memory limits so it took very little to fix the situation.
   The good thing is that might give me a little more time to look into the issue
   more deeply.
