    Hi John,

i noticed a huge issue with Ad Blocking Detector: I’ve just tried to enter in wp-admin but unfortunately only the notification is shown.

    Getting Started

!!! The Ad Blockers Are Coming!

Ad Blocking Detector is now targeted by ad blockers. A characteristic of WordPress plugin installation makes it very simple for them to block crucial plugin files, preventing detector from working.

Fortunately, there is a way to circumvent the ad blockers, but it requires your help.

You need to visit the Advanced Settings tab above, and follow the instructions for creating the Block List Countermeasure plugin. Until you do this, there is a good chance Ad Blocking Detector will not work correctly!

    Set-Up & Configuration Checklist

Reliably detecting ad blockers is tricky business! Simply installing this plugin isn't enough, you need to do a little set-up. Use the checklist below to get started.

    Set-Up Block List Countermeasure Plugin.
Visit the Advanced Settings tab above.
Follow the instructions to create the Block List Countermeasure Plugin.

It’s not possible to edit any changes. What can I do?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Jannik

  • Same here.
Had to go into the actual file manager to delete the plugin, tried to reinstall etc, the plugin seems completely messed up.

After finally getting it to work again, it stopped again after I had entered most of my codes again.

Unfortunately I will have to uninstall (through my hosting again since accessing the plugins dashboard is not possible) as this seems too unreliable now.

    I apologize for the problems.

Although the symptoms are different, I believe this is the same root problem as described in this post: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/fatal-error-1728?replies=5#post-7220459. If you’re interested in the details of what went wrong and why, check out that thread.

In summary of the resulting post, version 3.1.2 of this plugin contains dramatic performance improvements, and will, I believe, stop the problem. Although I wasn’t able to replicate the problem exactly, I determined there was a PHP memory leak which, in conjunction with limitations in the WordPress Settings API, was using a lot of memory. It wasn’t noticeable on any of my WordPress sites and testing sites without going to extremes (~50 shortcodes and 1/4 the memory allocated), but for a small handful of sites, it appears the PHP problem lead to runaway memory usage.

If you’re willing to give the plugin another try, check out the latest version which removes the technique that causes PHP to leak memory.

Once again, I apologize for the problems. If the problem persists, or anything else occurs, let me know and I will do my best to remedy the problem.

    Hi John,

thanks for your response. Unfortunately an update to 3.1.2 crashes my whole site and in backend and frontend only a balnk page is shown.

But the problem is not so big actually because I did an downgrade and use version 2.2.8 at the moment which is stable for me and so I will update later.

If you’ll need further information for resolving, please let me know. Oh and as already mentioned via mail: Thanks for this awesome plugin! Hope I can update to the new version soon. 🙂

    Best regards,
    Jannik

Hi Mr. Morris. I am using v3.1.2 of the plugin.

My individual articles do not load. I also get the same problem as the original poster.

I disabled the Ad Blocking Detector plugin and my site loads properly now.

I like the Ad Blocking Detector plugin and will not give up on it. Will wait until a new update is out that fixes the issue, then use that update.
