Title: HTTP error when using media uploader Last modified: August 22, 2016 --- # HTTP error when using media uploader * [OldCorkonian](https://wordpress.org/support/users/josullivanc/) * (@josullivanc) * [11 years, 8 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/http-error-when-using-media-uploader/) * Ok, so I have a strange issue here… * I have a WP install that was working fine until now, but the last day or two I’ve been getting HTTP errors – but not across all users. * One user is getting a HTTP error when trying to upload files (from a different machine), but the other user isn’t. This is erratic across multiple user accounts. * What is particularly strange is that while I can upload files that originated from my own machine, I CAN’T upload files that originated at one of the machines getting the error. * That was happen pre and post WP 4.0, on a clean install with no plugins. * When you do get the HTTP error, it creates a placeholder for the corrupted image, with the correct name, but no thumbnail appears. * Noooooo idea what this is – any ideas? Some photos OK, others not. Can’t give you a solution, but can offer a work around. * Go to Media, Add New. * Underneath the upload box, you will see this:- * You are using the multi-file uploader. Problems? As suggested by PC-Paul, I tried the single file browser uploader instead, and received error message “ Internal Server Error”. Web host saying it’s a WordPress issue. Causing BIG headache! It also wasn’t the permissions on any of the media folders as I played around with those for DAYS from one suggestion that someone had. * This has just cropped up again today. The only way I could get around it even now is to not use transparencies in my uploaded images. I know that sounds crazy but thats the only way I could get my images on the site and working. * I hope more comes to light from it and they release a fix or something. It is now allowing some uploads but not all. It will also allow some photos to be edited but not all.
