  • I have wasted more time than I care to divulge troubleshooting this problem . . . I’ve deactivated plugins, change max storage and even brought my images down to less than 1M and I still get random http errors. HELP! This has become very frustrating . . .

I was also getting the same error and I talked with the hosting providers as well but they said there is nothing from our end. Then I found one plugin through which I was able to upload the images.

I know that this is not the exact method but it solved my purpose. Although the plugin is outdated but it solved my purpose.

The plugin is – Force Regenerate Thumbnails
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/

Please try once and check whether it solves your purpose or not

    Hope this helps

    Thanks and Regards

It happens to me when my images have an apostrophe in the filename. Try renaming your file without an apostrophe if you have it.

Same problem on a client’s website. Suddenly uploading any image generates an “http error”. The file appears in the media list, but only as a graphic (page with a corner turned).

I resolved it by installing the Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin (thank you Divdeep Singh!).

That’s just a workaround though…there is still something wrong.

    Hi

Yes, I also think that there is some problem with WP v4.9.4 in uploading the images. Sometime it works and sometime it doesnot works

It’s also odd that this thread does not appear in the normal timeline of the “Fixing WordPress” Forum.

Perhaps we need to start a new thread?

Also wanted to note that although the “Force Regenerate Thumbnail” plugin hasn’t been updated in over a year, it is working with WP v4.9.4.

According to a two month old post (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/is-plugin-abandoned-4/) on their support forum the FRT developer said that the plugin has not been abandoned and a new version will be issued.

I’d still like to know what’s causing the initial problem however (and why the FRT plugin “fixes” it) as I try to avoid having unnecessary plugins where possible.

I am having the same issue on my site about Kung Fu / Karate. Can Someone Help? Can’t upload any images.

Evansourav, the work-around for Divdeep Singh and me was to install the “Force Regenerate Thumbnail” plugin.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/

After installing it I was able to upload images normally again.

We still have no idea why this problem keeps happening though and this thread is almost a year old.

Using Flickr because it wasn’t working, will test & update, Thanks for the reply

I run a Multi-Site WP installation very successful since many years on FreeBSD+Apache+PHP56. Some time ago I encountered the same problem with file uploads. More specifically:
    *) image upload works
*) uploading files with disallowed extensions fails (as expected)
*) uploading allowed file types other than images, e.g. mp3 fails with “HTTP error”

I tried all those options shown within this thread without success. The Web server log shows that the child process of the Apache segfaults. When I decrease PHP memory_limit the log file shows the error message of memory_limit and segfaults immediately afterwards. When increasing the memory_limit again the mem_limit-error-message goes away but it keeps segfaulting. I re-istalled all binaries without any success.

The problem was solved after upgrading PHP from 5.6 to 7.2.

In respect to my previous posting for WP developers:
*) The upload itself seems to work, since I can find the files in the /tmp folder of the server.
*) It is the same behavior when using the browser uploader.

I am using avada and I cannot seem to upload any images. Can you please advice. Also how much space do I have, how do I check. Please advise. Thank you
