 * Hi,
 * When I go to write a new post and upload an image I choose my files to upload
   and while the image is in the “crunching” stage of uploading it stops and says“
   HTTP Error”. I have a PC and when trying to upload the images from my friends
   PCs I experienced the same problem. So I would upload the images from a friends
   MAC and it worked! (I am usually anti-mac so this hurt me a little bit, haha)
   But now I’m getting the “HTTP Error” even on my friends MAC. What is this error?
   Why is it happening? How can I fix it? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks
   🙂

 * I have re-uploaded all the wordpress 2.6.3 files to my server (after deleting
   the admin and includes folder again before the upload.) I have also created the.
   htaccess file into my wp-admin folder. Still, when I try to uppload an image
   to a page or post it just says “http error” no matter what size the image is –
   I tried small, low res GIF and JPG images.

 * My problems persist.
 * I have been able to upload images to my site with no problem, until the last
   two weeks or so. And now WP won’t accept any new images from me at all. It’s
   crazy-making, especially since I have the newest version of WP already operating.
 * So, you’re telling me the only solution is to essentially reinstall everything?

 * **How can people not find this? It’s a sticky at the top of the forum…**
 * Simple, Otto … they don’t bother to read, or search, before making a post:) Too
   much trouble, I suspect.

 * What leads you to that determination? If you bothered to read the links post,
   the answer lies in the .htaccess file and a plugin.

 * Saurus, I’m brand new at this. Some things you can take for granted make no sense
   to me yet. And I have *bothered* to read every post on image errors I could find,
   including Otto42’s.
 * The first paragraph in Otto42’s post implied that I probably didn’t install things
   correctly the first time, and so I should now “download and install every file.”
   How would I do that without starting from scratch?
 * RE: .htaccess file. How would I do this? Otto42’s post just said “make one.”
 * I’m just a bit irritated that I have to write code just to get an image from
   my local machine (and I’m not going through any local server or a proprietary
   database) into a post in this high-functioning piece of software known as WordPress.
   TypeFace doesn’t have this problem. Facebook doesn’t have this problem.
 * Why does it require a degree in Computer Science to upload an image in WP? Why
   don’t the buttons just *work*?

 * That sticky post is obviously helpful for some people but it doesn’t address
   all the problems people are having with the Flash uploader.
 * My situation, for example:
 * I have multiple WP sites, all running 2.7, all on the same VPS and so with identical
   Apache and PHP configurations. The Flash uploader works on some sits and doesn’t
   work on others. This problem has persisted since WP 2.5, so it’s clearly not
   a problem with my installation. I am not using mod_security, PHP’s safe_mode,
   or Bad Behavior.
 * The only consistent difference between sites it works on and sites it does not
   is permalink structure. Sites with data-based permalinks (`/%year%/%monthnum%/%
   postname%`) work fine; sites with category-based permalinks (`/%category%/%postname%`)
   do not. That doesn’t make sense to me either but I’ve done a good deal of testing
   and that is literally the _only_ difference between these sites. They’re even
   all running the same plugins. Needless to say, the regular “browser upload” works
   fine on all sites.
 * Any ideas on this one? Can anyone else confirm this problem in their own installations?

 * I got the exact same problem when I updated to 2.8.2 and it turned out, for me,
   to be the image-file I wanted to upload being to big. Apparently it can’t handle
   large images anymore. Try making the file smaller and then upload it again.
 * Spent lots of time to reinstall and do all kinds of tricks and it turned out
   that the image was too large…
