I’m getting this error when adding the Mailchimp API and Saving changes.

HTTP Error: Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)

The site is on a Hostgator account and they are telling me that it’s a plugin issue. Any ideas?

Hi there,

This is most definitely not a plugin issue as I’ve had this error countless of times, each time it was resolved by asking the host if they have PHP CURL installed and updated to the latest version (v7.39.0)..

They should know what do to.

A client of the Pronamic iDEAL plugin also had similar problems at HostGator. Therefor I contacted HostGator but their support is not very helpful. I wrote a short blog about the outdated cURL library at HostGator and the disappointing support: http://www.remcotolsma.nl/2015/06/hostgator-curl-outdated-disappointing-support/. Luckily there is an quickfix for this, WordPress can use cURL or streams to make HTTP requests. With the “HTTP cURL transport last” plugin from Pronamic you can make sure the cURL transport is used as last resort: https://github.com/pronamic/wp-http-curl-transport-last/.
