    Hi,

    I keep getting this error:
HTTP Error: Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)

When I try inputting my generated API key. I have called HostGator regarding if they havePHP CURL installed and updated to the latest version (v7.39.0). As of now they support up to v7.10.1 or something like that. I don’t know what else to do from here. May someone please help me out? Thank you in advanced.

    Sincerely,
    Jimmy

    Hey Jimmy and Tiasha,

You did the right thing calling HostGator but unfortunately their CURL is severely outdated.

There’s a bug in CURL at around version 7.19, which is why CURL should at least be at that version or not installed at all as that will make WordPress use another HTTP Transport.

Asking Hostgator to update CURL to the latest stable version will fix this issue, it’s an easy thing for a host to do. A hosting company that size should know what to do..

Sorry there’s no easier fix but this is really the only way to go about this.

Let me know if anything else turns up, I’d love to help!

A client of the Pronamic iDEAL plugin also had similar problems at HostGator. Therefor I contacted HostGator but their support is not very helpful. I wrote a short blog about the outdated cURL library at HostGator and the disappointing support: http://www.remcotolsma.nl/2015/06/hostgator-curl-outdated-disappointing-support/. Luckily there is an quickfix for this, WordPress can use cURL or streams to make HTTP requests. With the “HTTP cURL transport last” plugin from Pronamic you can make sure the cURL transport is used as last resort: https://github.com/pronamic/wp-http-curl-transport-last/.
