• WP Smush is more or less consistently throwing HTTP errors when uploading images to the media library. Unless the file that is being uploaded is fairly small (smaller than or close to some of the sizes that WP Smush is supposed to optimize to) it fails to upload.

I should add that I am publishing posts to Apple News as well, so there are likely more image formats being created than the average WordPress install.

I imagine that this might be a timeout issue. Is there a timing option in functions.php that can be modified to give it more time to process?

    Hi @ucallrt,

    Hope you’re well 🙂

I’ve tested this on my installation with some large images (around 5MB) but I was unable to see any similar errors, could you post entire error error here and perhaps grab a screenshot so we can better understand what you’re seeing?

You could try increasing maximum execution time by following the instructions from here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Common_WordPress_Errors#Maximum_execution_time_exceeded

    Cheers,

    HTTP error

The images in question that I was trying to add were 11.1 and 12.3 MB in size.

Thank you for your response. The free version of Smush only compresses images up to 1mb. To compress images that large you would need to upgrade. We have a free trial period so you could Smush those larger images and then go back to using the free version and still keep the compressed images. I hope this helps.
