# HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error)

 * Hi,
    I was just editing my theme’s function.php file to enable post thumbnails
   on facebook when suddenly my site and admin site became inaccessible. I am getting
   the following message:
 * Server error
    The website encountered an error while retrieving [http://www.glowfitnessacademy.com/](http://www.glowfitnessacademy.com/).
   It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions:
   Reload this webpage later. HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected
   condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.
 * Does anyone know how to put this right please?

 * Then I can only suggest that you download a fresh copy of your theme,. extract
   its functions.php file and upload it to wp-content/themes/theme-name using FTP.

   management application your host provides.

 * Higher level answer: you probably edited the code in a way that your web server
   couldn’t process. If you wanted to know the error, you’d ask your host to tell
   you what the error_logs said.
 * But esmi recommends restoring the previous file and getting that working.
 * If you’re a total beginner, your best bet is not to touch the code. I consider
   myself more advanced (I understand a bit about PHP too) but I still won’t touch
   code.
