• Hello! I was downloading a new theme and recieved this error and am no longer able to get in. I cannot get to a log in page, I just see the following:
The website cannot display the page
    HTTP 500
    Most likely causes:
    •The website is under maintenance.
•The website has a programming error.

I read something on forums about changing settings but I have no idea where to go to make changes or fixes. Sorry, I’m not a techie, just a blogger! Thanks for any help.
    My site is http://droneoftheday.com/

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

Take a backup of theme that you downloaded and then delete that theme from your FTP. After that try it again by activating wordpress default theme. Hope it will work.

Thank you both but I don’t understand how I can reset plugins or change themes when I can’t log in. I try to get to my page and I get the HTTP 500 error.

Using ftp just rename the theme in wp-content/themes then try to go on your website that is what @esmi suggested.

Okay, I started down the phpMyAdmin path and am already way over my head. What do you mean by “using ftp”? How do I do that?

If you are in your cpanel click on file manager click on wp-content folder click on themes folder in there you will see all the themes just rename the theme folder you installed .
