HTML not in pages interface
-
I’m taking over a new site and I can’t find where the code for the pages is through the interface.
I have uber-admin privileges but when I go to edit any of the pages there is no code in there.
Can get ahold of the old developer.
Anyone know what this might be?
Thanks very much!!!
Pete

So you are in the dashboard, select all pages, choose edit on the page you want to change and there is no edit screen? Is this what happens?
Or are trying the find source code for a page? There only would be html there if you entered it while creating or editing a page – the html code that the browser sees is rendered by the php code dynamically.
Hi Kmessinger,
The edit screen is there but there is nothing in there, no code, no text.
Is there a method that people do to pull the pages from somewhere else?
I looked at the source code and it all seems to be pulling from wp:

Thanks for your help!
If you are trying to edit a page. Click on all pages. A list of pages will come up. Hover over the page name and some choices will come up. Click on edit and the editor will show the page in visual or code, which ever you choose.

Yup, I am seeing that edit screen but there is no code or text in there.
Is there anything you can think of that would explain that?
What is the site URL and which particular page are you trying to look at.
Can I email you? Not sure about the privacy policies with this client.
Thanks!
I’ll email you.
Go to appearance, editor and open the about.php
Looks like it don’t have an editor option. Just Widgets, Menus, TAC, Header, and Background. I’m looking into that issue on other forum posts now.
Thanks so much for your time!!!
PeteYou should have themes, widgets, menus, editor.
[edit] It looks like you are running an old version of WordPress. The version, 2.11, was compromised during the release and should have been upgraded to 2.12.
To upgrade to the current version 3.4.2 follow these instructions
http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress
You can download the current version here, http://wordpress.org/download/Make sure you have backups of the database and all of your images.
There is a big security issue here so you should upgrade before doing anything else. http://wordpress.org/news/2007/03/upgrade-212/This is a friend’s live site and I don’t know enough about wp to do an upgrade. Afraid i might kill the site.
Looks like the last developer didn’t create the site very well and just through together a custom theme with out allowing it to be updated through wp. There is no editor button, so I resolved this by finally getting ftp access and just editing the php pages manually.
Thanks so much for your help! Wouldn’t have got there without you!!!
We still highly recommend you discuss an upgrade path with your friend
That version of WP is extremely out of date, and vulnerable. There are known vulnerabilities.
Your friend will be quite unhappy if they lose everything, I’m sure!
Thanks for that. I went into the dashboard and it’s actually saying that I have the latest version “version 3.4.2”
Does that sound correct to you?
One site, sucuri.com shows you current but did not yesterday. ismyblogworking.com shows version 2.3.4. The version is normally within the source code but not yours.
This
Looks like it don’t have an editor option. Just Widgets, Menus, TAC, Header, and Background.
also made it look like an older version.
But if you are in the dashboard and there is a tab for updates
[edit – if there is no tab then it is not 3.4.2.] and it shows 3.4.2 then it likely is. But who did the update? And something is still wrong with the edit feature. Making changes in the code is never the way to go as any update will over write the changes.I went back and looked at your screen shot. You definitely have a current version.
