  • I’m using the following HTML for a contact form:

    <form action=”html_form_send.php” method=”post” name=”htmlform”>
    <table width=”450px”>
    <tbody>
    <tr>
    <td valign=”top”><label for=”first_name”>First Name *</label></td>
    <td valign=”top”><input maxlength=”50″ name=”first_name” size=”30″ type=”text” /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td valign=”top”><label for=”last_name”>Last Name *</label></td>
    <td valign=”top”><input maxlength=”50″ name=”last_name” size=”30″ type=”text” /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td valign=”top”><label for=”email”>Email Address </label></td>
    <td valign=”top”><input maxlength=”80″ name=”email” size=”30″ type=”text” /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td valign=”top”><label for=”telephone”>Telephone Number *</label></td>
    <td valign=”top”><input maxlength=”30″ name=”telephone” size=”30″ type=”text” /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td valign=”top”><label for=”comments”>Comments *</label></td>
    <td valign=”top”><textarea cols=”25″ maxlength=”1000″ name=”comments” rows=”6″></textarea></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td style=”text-align: center;” colspan=”2″><input type=”submit” value=”Send E-Mail” action=”mailto:robyn.t@hamiltonpt.com”/></td>
    </tr>
    </tbody>
    </table>
    </form>

    For the life of me… I cannot get the “Send E-Mail” button to link to send an email. I know that it is <mailto:”email address”> but it won’t work no matter where i put it. Anyone able to help with this? Our current form from theme 2012 won’t transfer over very well.

    Thanks in advance!

    My first question would be….why are you creating a form that has a form action of mailto instead of a far better solution like a forms plugin, such as Contact Form 7 (many other options too)? Ultimately, you get a lot more options and flexibility with a plugin method.

    The one big problem is that your email address is easily picked up by scripts that can take advantage of it and enter you in a world of spam and other abuses.

    Although I don’t have a setup tutorial for Longevity with regards to creating a Contact page, I do have one for my Aberration Lite theme if you are interested?

    However, there are tutorials online for email forms that you can google, such as this one:

    Nope. We aren’t changing the theme as it took 3 months to decide on Longevity. I’ll look into plugins. Thanks.

    I think the Contact Form 7 will be your best bet, especially if you want to keep using Longevity. Also, what I meant about my Aberration Lite theme is to use the contact form/page setup tutorial for your Longevity theme.
