 * I want to see the html code behind the post I am editing!
    I used to be able
to do this, to go in and tweak the code. Maybe change one aspect of one line.
Maybe a paragraph formatting. Now I can not! The content in the “Visual” and “
html” windows look exactly the same; no html code.

 * See my forum post today “Only HTML, no VISUAL display of post after restore”
   for a similar problem.

 * Something is very wrong. Have you tried:
 * – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works,
re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.

 * I deactivated all plugins, and upgraded to 2.8.5. No fix.
    I reactivated the
two plugins I had. No fix.
 * I have tweaked so much of the theme that I am not about to load a new theme and
then reload the one I use. (Though I do back up the modified theme I use.)
 * Which php file manages the edit page? i can compare my version with the baseline
and see if I inadvertantly changerd it. Doubtful though since all of my tweaks
have focused on the display of the posts, not the editing.

 * Did you tweak the default theme? If so, you can [protect your customisations](http://quirm.net/2009/10/04/customising-the-default-wordpress-theme-2/).
The theme could be the source of the problem if it includes custom functions
   and/or JavaScript.
 * I don’t think there’s a single file that manages all of the page editing functionality
but, if you’ve only edited theme files, you’re unlikely to have introduced a
core issue yourself. That said, you could try re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-
includes folders via FTP in case you have a corrupt file that wasn’t corrected
   during the upgrade.
