htaccess overwritten 2x in past week

  • I am having an issue where my htaccess is being overwritten and thus replaced with a faulty file:

    Once rewritten the file only contains:
    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </IfModule>

    This prevents the interior pages of my site (seattleglutenfree.com) from loading. I spoke with godaddy and they said my account had not been hacked, I ran my site through secur and found no issues – I changed my hosting passwords – yet it just happened again.

    Any suggestions as to where to start? I had not added any new plugins for a few months prior to this issue cropping up last week.

    I appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks.

  • Check the permissions set for your .htaccss file and amke sure that it’s not writable by anyone apart from the account owner.

    Thank you for the suggestion Michael. I have reviewed the permissions and it is currently only writable by owner – which is me alone – and I changed all passwords once this happened the first time.

    @orobo, you can check on server logs.
    Search by .htaccess modification time.

    Ok I just checked the permissions for the htaccess and it was set to 0604. Reading similar threads it seems 644 is the standard, I’ve updated it to that. Could this have been contributing?
