    I’ve got a wordpress install in my root directory, so I’ve got a standard .htaccess file:
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    However, in a subfolder /articles/images, I want a custom 404 (I’ve got a non-wordpress program running in /articles). So in that subfolder I put a second .htaccess like
    ErrorDocument 404 /articles/images/404.php

    I’ve tried a few different variations, but none of it seems to trigger my 404.php program when I request a missing file from /articles/images.

    I know this isn’t a specific wordpress problem, but I suspect it’s something others have dealt with. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.
