.htaccess file regenerate

    i had problems downloading gallery…i received a 500 internal server error message. i asked for help from my webhost and they renamed my .htaccess file and told me that i now need to regenerate this file. they also said that i need to contact wordpress for support with this issue.

    i have no idea what i’m supposed to do, but i do know that my site is blank and the back up .htxxx file that he saved only contains g2 data.

    can someone please help? i don’t know where to begin to provide information to help.

    Try visiting Options -> Permalinks and re-saving whatever your current settings are.

    i cannot access my site to log in so that i can get to options. is there another way to log in other than through my domain site?

    i re-saved the permalinks, but this did not create a new .htaccess file.

    how do i re-create a new file?

    Visit Options -> Permalinks

    If WordPress cannot create/edit your .htaccess, there’ll be instructions at the bottom of the page.

    unless, i am missing something, there aren’t any instructions on how to create a new one on the bottom of that screen that you mention.

    Typically, that would mean that WP has the necessary read/write permissions. The instructions will only show up if it doesn’t.

    You could force the issue by making your .htaccess read-only, then visiting Options -> Permalinks if you want to compare what WP tells you to use with whats already there.
