• Hi – bit of a problem – I host with godaddy. They have a function that automatically installs WP for you – which failed three times. When I spoke to support they said that that was due to me having a .htaccess file.

Apparently the only fix is to manually install WP.

I am unable to remove the .htaccess due to important 301 redirects so if anyone can help me Id apprecaite it.

I guess my question is – how do I manually install WP – * AND * – keep .htaccess?

    THANKS

Thanks – the installation guide is certainly helpful but my question really is – – is there a problem/ potential conflict with WP and .htaccess?

I can obviosuly try myself but just wondering if anyone reading this has any thoughts?

    Thanks

Not between WP and .htaccess, no but there could be an issue between your .htaccess and GD’s 1-click installer.

    ok – sounds good.

Just another quick queston pls: do I need to change or edit my .htaccess at all?

I am sure I read somewhere that to enable smart url’s you must use .htaccess?

    Thanks –

Only the .htaccess in the WP root folder. And then only if you decide to use pretty permalinks.

    ah i see…

So there can be two .htaccess files?

1 can be in WP Root Folder and 2 can be in your site architecture root level?

    Thanks

Yes. You can have .htaccess files in every folder. Each file controls that folder and any of its children – unless one of the children has its own .htaccess file.
