HOWTO: Migrating Themes to 2.7 (37 posts)

I'm sort of new to this but have been learning about code editing in the past several weeks to modify a free theme I found (GloriousDay by WordPress Theme Shop). I am trying to update the comment section as described here but it is not working and the explanation is hard to follow.

Problems started when I tried to edit the loop. The first error was "syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE". I looked at the old code and noticed the if statement began with <?php so I added it at the beginning. The next error was "unexpected '<' whenever any thing appears after the final second "endif".

Also, my sidebar disappeared on the single post page.

    Any advice?

Know what, I just copied and pasted the entire Kubrick comments.php into my theme and it works fine. I'll just use that and work on the style. Thanks anyway.

I installed 2.7.1 and when I click on Edit in Appearance to edit my theme I get this message: Sorry, that file cannot be edited.

Same message when clicking on Plugins Editor.

I found some posts about this but no resolutions.

I know about changing permissions on the files but I never had to do that with other versions of WP and I'm reluctant to change the permissions for fear of being open to hackers.

Can someone offer me some advice as to how to get the editor to work? I can CHMOD but what files and what should the number be? 744?

    Thank you!

I uploaded a theme from the WordPress called "Paper" by Amanda. The front page doesn't show my post, but the about page does. There's an error on the front page:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function post_class() in /mnt/w0805/d01/s15/b0307eb7/www/mustbeaponyinthere.com/wp-content/themes/paper.0.6/paper/index.php on line 9

WordPress says a stylesheet and template are missing.

    Not sure what to do.

  6. @delocurr - You may have uploaded the theme incorrectly as far as that path is showing in your error message.

Try re-uploading the theme, but from inside the unzipped folder, start at the one named "paper" which is inside the one named "paper.0.6".

Upload the "paper" folder (and all its contents) to your /wp-content/themes/ folder.

    See if that helps ...
