• Trying to figure out why the admin bar exists for Subscriber and Editor roles, but the “Howdy Username” does not nor its profile menu and logout.

I’ve disabled two likely plugin culprits (User Role Editor and Ultimate Member) to see if they were responsible, but doesn’t seem so.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Check which language these users have selected for the admin pages. Have these languages been downloaded? (You may get WordPress to download a language file set by temporarily changing the language setting for the whole site, and then fetch all language updates on the update screen).

Perhaps it’s just hidden by CSS? Check the html received from the server (hit ctrl-U and search for “Howdy”).

    Check your cache settings.

Try to temporarily change to a standard theme.

Try to deactivate all other plugins, too. Even if they don’t seem to be related.

Check if you happen to have any strange plugin installed as a “must use”.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the ideas!
All check out as okay, but the plug-in check, a long task which I will begin now.

I can’t help thinking that I may have changed a setting somewhere. I have added no new plugins since the error appeared (though some have updated with the new WP), and all my plugins are reliable/stable and support for the likely culprits reports no similar errors.

More basically, is there any normal WP setting which may do this?
