# how wp send mails

 * Hey all,
 * I want to know how wordpress send mail when a new user register. I have my site
   running under wordpress ( [http://whoiam55.at.preempted.net](http://whoiam55.at.preempted.net)).
   But when a new user register, they are not receiving any mail. Do I have to change
   any option?

 * It uses the PHP function mail(), which sends through sendmail on the server. 
   If sendmail is not enabled or available on the server, it “usually” will not 
   work.
 * You may want to take a look at the WordPress plugin wpPHPMailer, which bypasses
   the need for sendmail.

 * thnx for reply. I tried with wpPHPMailer, but still not getting mails. seems 
   something wrong with my server.

 * OK, I’m getting this error now “The e-mail could not be sent.
    Possible reason:
   your host may have disabled the mail() function…”. I asked from my server admin
   and there is nothing like that, no problem with mail() funtion.
