Im setting up a website (pirex.com.br) and I though that better than ask the problems Im having, I should ask whats the best way of doing what I want… cause maybe I have to start over…
What I want to do is to have a blog with several authors. On the top menu I want to list this authors. On the home page, I want all the posts together… inside each authors page only their posts (obviously) and a customized side bar…
How would you do this?
That’s not too difficult. There are several ways to do it. The easiest way I can think of is to make each author’s name a Category. Then, have each author post into subcategories. Download Category Order 1.9.5 at the bottom of the page at http://www.coppit.org/code/ That will allow you to nicely organize and indent your categories list in the sidebar.
Check out http://codex.wordpress.org/Category_Templates for tips on how to customize each category or “authors page”.
You can see in my robotics category that I have a descript of the content, for instance: http://thegreatgeekmanual.com/blog/category/ai-robotics/
In your blog, that would where each author posts a little bio or whatever.
Hope that works for you!
Oh, and for the custom sidebar:
Look around the documentation and you’ll find that you can assign each category a different sidebar template.
That is exaclty what I did… made categories…
Now Ill look deeper on the links you gave me..
One of my problems are the highlight of the top menu… I hacked the code to highlight it whenever you are inside a post on that category or if you are on the main page of the category… but once you go, for example, to the link “older posts”.. the highlight desappear because Im doing this picking up the url address and checking if the name of the category is there…
