• I want to redesign my old website http://www.anxietysupportnetwork.com in WordPress.

I won’t be able to do this quickly, so I want a test site that stays hidden from the public.

Is there a guide on this?

By the way, I know that I’ll have to 301 redirect old URLs to new ones to keep SEO.

I’m not a skilled developer, but knowledgeable enough to follow instructions and ask questions. I don’t have several grand to pay for the design I need, so that’s why I’m doing it myself.

    Thanks,

    Dan

You can install WordPress on your local computer and do the coding/development process on there — no one but you will be able to access it, so you don’t need to hide it. Then once you’re done, you can move it all to a webserver that everyone else can see.

My suggestion, buy a similar 2nd domain as a test building site. Something relevant like .net or something you might be able to use down the line later. Then install WP onto that domain, choose a theme, and copy & paste all your text into the WP site and build your site until finished.

Otherwise you could do it as a subfolder (ie http://www.anxietysupportnetwork.com/testsite ) but for $14 bucks a year I’d just keep it concise & seperate, but thats just me.

Then, when the site is finished change the sites location in the General tab I think, and then close out & move your folders & files to your other domains folder. Viola! It should go live. I think there’s a plugin Blue Velvet to help fix any kinks in moving a sites domain but I didn’t find I needed it.
