How URL Rewriting works on IIS ?

    Hi,
    I am trying to rewrite url and I am novice to this,As I am using IIS for webhosting, kindly help me to find files, functions and logic behind rewriting the url. In short I want to know the logic behind of “Permalinks”.

    If I want to rewite the url without using Permalinks then guide me implement the same.

    kindly help me as soon as possible as it is my urgent need.
