[Resolved] How to work on WordPress and not display

  • Hi all. Just getting started and about to install WordPress to my BlueHost server. I have a temporary “under construction” type page I want to put up now and install / work on my WordPress blog in the background until it’s finished. (not visible to anyone)

    I am searching the forums AND reading a WordPress book but I haven’t come across this yet. Is there a solution someone can help me with?

    Thanks a million.

  • Maybe you need Maintenance Mode plugin?

    Very helpful, thanks! This might work for me.
    I have a simple “under construction” page up with the my logo etc…
    I posted that to the public_ftp folder so that comes up for current visitors.

    I saw somewhere on my BlueHost documentation that I can install WordPress to the root folder. Can I do that while I build it up and then MOVE it later on?

    Also you can put a .maintenance file in web-root with your Under construction info

    Can I do that while I build it up and then MOVE it later on?

    Just install it in the blog folder, or the wordpress folder, or the journal folder, or whatever you like, under your web-root folder, then when it’s time for action, change the Blog Address (URL) to mydomain.com and put an index.php in web-root that says

    <?php
    define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);
    require('./blog/wp-blog-header.php');
    ?>

    **Of course replace ./blog with whatever folder you installed it in.

    Thanks so much for your help. I’ll do just that when the time comes.
