How to use post formatting on non-post data?

    Lets suppose I’m saving post-like material to meta. Strings of user-related info that might involve paragraphs, but not directly put in the post itself.

    What system / functions are available in wordpress that preprocess data to do its html-removal, etc, then reprocess it so paragraph tags are added?
