• The desire here is to develop a sight for displaying static pages. In that, blogging is NOT necessary. The idea is to control who can find certain pages based on their capabilities/permissions.

When creating a new Page it is possible to make it either public or private where private limits visibility to users with Editor or Admin privileges. However, in this case the page is NOT only visible they are able to edit said page. Suppose the desire is to only allow known parties (i.e, someone who has performed login) to view certain pages but with NO authority to edit them? For example, what about restricting access (visibility) to certain pages to users who are “Subscribers”?

Look at the plugin “members”. It has the capability to do this.

I guess that means that a plugin is necessary.

The description for the plugin named “Members” includes the following:

“This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.”

It also hasn’t been updated lately and as is common with WP plugins the documentation is quite skimpy.

It actually looks like there are lots of plugins that could handle my minimal need but why to choose one verses another is NOT so easy to figure out. In my case light weight (both processing overhead & learning) would also be desirable characteristics. Any insight into such would be appreciated.

What about plugin named “Groups” which does appear to have some documentation?

I’m using members on a couple of sites w/o issues. A friend swears by https://wordpress.org/plugins/restrict-content/

Well now, experience does count. I’ll take a look at “Restrict Content” also.

    Thanks for responding!
