Support » Fixing WordPress » How to use categories to control what posts appear on homepage

  • I would like posts of a certain category (or tag, if I can use those for this) to NOT appear on my homepage. Instead, those will go on a different posting page within my site. That’s easy to do, but since there seems to be no way to control what categories of posts appear on the homepage, they all show up. Any way to do this?

  • If you want to show an X amount of posts on your homepage from all categories except one category, you’re going to have to create a custom query to show them.

I’m not sure how experienced you are with code but you may find some helpful info here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Query

Look under “Exclude Posts Belonging to Category“.

Thanks! But yeah, I have no experience with code. But, if I use the code you referenced, where would I put it in WP_Query to get it to work?
