[resolved] How to Upload Only *one-size* Thumbnail via "set featured image"? (3 posts)

I've asked this before, but no luck so far... So, I'm trying one more time:

WordPress uploads four (or so) versions of any image uploaded via the "set as featured image" function. How can we ensure that only *one* version (the small thumbnail) is uploaded?

Automatically uploading four versions of each featured image would help increase disk space rather rapidly, I think... Any suggestions on how to avoid that?

Our site has -- literally -- thousands of images. I should add that each full-sized image is manually uploaded (via FTP) to a separate, non-WP folder.

Any assistance would be MUCH appreciated.

If you are willing to dig into the code, see this support conversation for help.

Much of this is changing soon with an upcoming release, so stay tuned.
