    Hello

The current version of the wordpress in my site is 4.9.1 . I am planning to upgrade the WordPress in the latest version.

I have found this link on step by step upgrade process. But it is really complicated and and very lengthy. https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

Can I just upgrade the version from the admin panel by clicking “upgrade now” . Do I have to disable all the plugins before upgrade. Can I just upgrade without disabling the plugins .

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Yes.

Do a backup first, but clicking upgrade now almost always works.

Never do a single / straight forward upgrade especially when your WordPress version 4 – 5 releases back.
Better take a back-up & then do step-by-step upgradation from one version to another.
That is what recommended to avoid any conflicts.

Can you elaborate the term “step by step upgrade” ?

When I click ” Upgrade Now ” Will not it upgrade in the latest version straight away?

    I am bit confused.

Can you elaborate the term “step by step upgrade” ?

It’s called as “Jump-to-Jump” WordPress upgrade. If you plan on upgrading WordPress across more than two major releases, you should consider upgrading manually to avoid conflicts and minimize the risks of database damage. For example, if you plan on upgrading from 2.5 to 5.1.1, upgrade to 2.7 first, followed by 2.9, then 3.1, and so on.

but from WordPress 3.7+ introduced an easy one-button updater which will take you directly to 5.1.1. This update step is safe, and it’s possible to one-click update from 4.9.1 to later version 5.1.1

Yes, you can directly upgrade it. Before upgrade, please take a backup of your full WordPress setup directories, files & database. The one-click update from 4.9.1 to later version 5.1.1 is possible with “Upgrade Now” button.

If you have any issues, Please de-activate all plugins & click on “Upgrade Now” button. You can reactivate plugins once you finish the successful upgrade.

Generally plugins are the ones that will cause issues while upgrading , but if you upgrade them too , then it shouldn’t be a problem.

    Hope it helps !!
