  • If a new version of a plugin I’m using is released, and there’s no documentation on how to upgrade, do I upgrade by overwritting the old files with the new ones?

And if so, do I have to deactivate the plugin in first? Or can I leave it activated? And usually, are info lost?

  • Generally you just dump it over the old one.

If there’s persistent data for the plugin, odds are it is in the database so it shouldn’t be lost.

    thanks

When updating a plugin, please make sure you DEACTIVATE the plugin first before launching your FTP software to overwrite the files. BUT the best way is to delete that particular plugin folder altogether instead of overwriting it.

wouldn’t that delete whatever saved info you have on it?

Tideas: nope, plugin in general should store the data in the database, by deleting the files, it will not remove any data. To be sure, just contact the respective plugin author.
