I have edited so many pages, so how I can I upgrade without having to re-edit them all? What are the core files needed to actually upgrade? When I download the 2.9.2 upgrade and decompress it, it’s the whole sha-bang, every last wordpress file, and I certainly don’t want all my pages overrode by them. I’ve put too much work into customizing ‘everything’, there must be a way to upgrade and leave my changes untouched?!??

    Thanks,
    Tracy

  • Are you indicating that you have extensively modified core files? Or just theme files? In either instance, the answer is make a backup of your modified files after every time you modify them, and a complete site backup right before any WordPress upgrade attempt. In the case of theme-only modifications, as long as the theme is uniquely named (NOT NAMED “DEFAULT”) the theme won’t be overwritten during an upgrade. In the case of modified core files, you will have to re-modify them or replace them with backups after every upgrade.

Here is a url for trac that will list the differences in files from version 2.9.1 to 2.9.2 for you.

    http://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?old_path=tags/2.9.1&old=12600&new_path=tags/2.9.2&new=13165

I think the changed files are listed at the top of the page.
