How to update jQuery included in WP 3.2.1?

    Dear all,

    I had a problem in IE7/ IE8 when using TheThe-Image-Slider. It seemed to me, something went wrong caused by jQuery.

    My currently installed version of jQuery is 1.6.1, which came up with my WP 3.2.1. installation. When manually changing the link to the latest jQ 1.6.4 on googleapis.com the problem was solved.

    But, as WP is providing the script-tag via wp_head(), I would like to know, how to update the jQuery and how to tell WP the new version (so the path)?
