How to update a theme?

    I was searching around for a new theme for my blog, and fond one i liked. Unfortunatly it’s old (as in pre 2.x) old. I want to update it so i can use widgets with it, but i’ve no idea how to. I’ve tried emailing the theme creator, but the two emails listed don’t seem to work (one bounced back ,and the other has had no reply after near 2 months).

    How to i modify the theme so it can use widgets? Please give me step by step instructions, im a tootal noob at this sort of thing 🙂

    I understand basic HTML, but thats my limit lol.
