I installed NextGen just to try it out and I would like to uninstall it completely now. I tried to deactivate and then delete NextGen via the WordPress Plugins admin screen and it removed the nextgen files from the plugins directory. But in the database there are still NextGen tables and records left. What is the correct way to completely uninstall NextGen? Or how do I get rid of all NextGen data in the database?

@heartcoded – This was used by another end-user when they wanted to completely start over …

They used http://wordpress.org/plugins/wpdbspringclean/ to delete all the ngg tables.
They used http://wordpress.org/plugins/database-peek/ to search through the remaining tables* for NGG references.
They used http://wordpress.org/plugins/edit-any-table/ to delete all of these database entries.

    *Tables: wp_options, wp_postmeta, and wp_usermeta

Hope it helps … please ensure you have a complete fully verified backup of your site before making any modifications to the database as a precaution.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Cais. I will try to remove things with phpMyAdmin. I also found nextgen records in wp_posts and nothing in wp_usermeta, by the way. But maybe that depends on what you do exactly before removing the plugin.

Maybe it could be added to some wishlist to add a button or something to the plugin to automagically remove all data in case you want to.

@heartcoded – We are reviewing the re-introduction of that functionality to remove all traces of NextGEN Gallery when the plugin is deleted.
