This is a retarded question, but I’m getting frustrated. I have WordPress 2.1 installed, and supposedly I can change this in the Options menu, but for the life of me I can’t find where?

Could someone point my dumb-feeling self to where it should be? I’m starting to doubt the existence of this checkbox (although I’ve definitely seen it in past installs).

Options->Reading. Bottom of the page. “WordPress should compress articles (gzip) if browsers ask for them”.

Is there a way to turn off gzip compression in the settings file or some other way besides the options screen? Our server doesn’t support gzip at this time, so we cannot even access the options screen.

Figured it out. the admin page works (/wp-admin/) whether or not GZIP is on, so you can adjust the GZIP settings there.

I need to turn off GZIP for the AJAX Advanced editor. How can I do that? My server GZIP things automatically.
