PROBLEM SOLVED
Find the address of wp-links-opml.php this file will create an opml file of the links.
Ie http://YOURDOMAIN.com/wp-links-opml.php
Go to ‘IMPORT’ on new site, choose ‘BLOGROLL’ and enter the address of you old wp-links-opml.php file
select category- all links will import into one category, they have to be manually sorted afterwards, that’s not too hard.
All mine go into a category called LINKS, which I had already created on the new site, so I selected that and saved having to move them afterwards.
Click on ‘IMPORT OPML FILE’
(When the upload is complete, sort into categories if necessary.)
How I worked it out and how to backup your Blogroll/Links –
After some more searching I realised that the wp-links-opml.php file CREATES an .OPML file. I entered http://www.MYDOMAIN.com/wr-links-opml.php into a browser window and voila!! there were my links listed. I copied that to notepad and saved it as an opml file, to keep as a backup.
Note:I could have uploaded that file using IMPORT>BLOGROLL but decided to keep it simple by letting the IMPORT>BLOGROLL page go to the old site and get the file itself.
I searched everywhere for this answer and it’s a great feeling to have worked it our myself haha! Hope this will help someone else.
Hey. Thanks for the Solution. Just what I was looking for. When you say importing links from OLD site to NEW site, both sites are of different domains?
If it’s the same domain, I just have the backup the wp-links-opml.php from the old site and then export it to the new site right?
Oh nvm. I found that I can download the blogroll using this solution

Thanks,
