Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » How to: Take Christmas orders at a butcher

  • I’m developing a website for a butcher and it seems that they have some specific requests for Christmas period. We’ve settled on having a separate woocommerce website on a sub-domain, as there will be a restricted catalog in that period, with many items that are only available during that period.

Now, it seems they want to be taking pre-orders of, say, turkeys with a deposit along with other items (sausages etc) – however, at the moment they do not know the actual cost of the turkeys as their supplier doesn’t give that to them until November. They want to have a 3-5 day period of collection / delivery (run up to Xmas).

The options I’ve looked at don’t seem to be useful. We use Order delivery date pro on the main site by Tyche, and have found that to be fine for most circumstances, but don’t help us with the pre-orders of unknown price. Woocommerce pre-orders only allows one item to be pre-ordered in an order, and clears the basket. YITH pre-orders need to be paid for upfront, which is no good as we do not know the exact price. I’m still considering Bright Plugins pre-order system, though I’m not sure how well it is compatible with order delivery date pro as it does not offer a date choice option.

Any thoughts on how I can best manage this use case would be greatly appreciated.

  • @wormtt I am the author of the Tyche Order Delivery Date plugin.

Do you mind letting me know how does the Delivery Date plugin not help with the pre-orders of unknown price? You could also get in touch with us from our support page on our website.

    Hi Vishal

It’s not exactly that Order Delivery Date doesn’t help, it’s just not a feature that is included. I’m looking for a way for the customer to be able to pay a deposit on say, a turkey, of say, £15, with the understanding that the approximate price will be say, £40, however we will not know until closer to the delivery date the exact price (which could range from £35 to £45)

So, I’m looking for a delivery date to be included, a deposit system, a subsequent payment system… it’s not a use case that I’m used to!

Hi @wormtt, I get your point. It’s indeed a unique use case. 🙂

We do have a Deposits plugin that’s also integrated with the Order Delivery Date plugin, but it won’t handle the price range part. You can accept a deposit & then the balance payment once it’s closer to the delivery date.

If that works for you, you can get the plugin from our website or email me for any further questions.
