I have my entire blog published on my own subdomain folder at mindreality.com/blog using blogger ftp publishing options. Now I’d like to use the wordpress software instead. If I install it into my blog folder, how do I go about using it to run my blog and everything that is contained in the folder without messing things up?

  • Things will get messed up if you install one blog on top of another… they don’t store pages/posts in the same way.

However, wordpress does have a Blogger import ability… so install wordpress to a new sub-directory (or move blogger to a different sub-dir) and then, as Admin, go to the Import section and give it a go.

Personally, I’d suggest installing WP to a new /test directory and mess with it a bit to make sure the import works the way you want. If all is good, then shuffle directories around.

Also, once you’ve made the switch and imported, you can configure WP to point to your “old” blog URL, so everyone who has you bookmarked won’t have to change anything – it’ll automatically show up.

They will have to resub to your feed though.

My URL will remain the same, because I use blogger to FTP publish to http://blog.mindreality.com

I wish wordpress forums was the standard kind so I could receive email notification to replies.

See that big honking “RSS fed for this thread” thingy there?

Just add the feed to this thread to your feedreader of choice (a couple modern browsers have something simple built in even).
