• I am using the Twenty Ten 1.1 theme. Each time I upload a picture, automatically WordPress creates a miniature and a medium size of it. I already made change to the settings in WordPress Media as to get rid of the medium size. But WordPress also create a header image with a 198 px height of each picture that is completly useless for me and only add trash on my server. I know I can delete those extra header pictures by using my FTP software but it would save me lot of time if it could be done directly by a WordPress setting.

    Many thanks!

  • WordPress creates a copy of each image file size you have set in Admin > Settings > Media.

To stop this behavior you can disable the default sizes, by setting them all to “0” in Admin > Settings > Media.

Yes and this is what I did : in Admin > Settings > Media we can disable miniature pictures and medium pictures but there is no place there for stopping WordPress making «header» pictures everytime a picture is uploaded! That’s the problem I want to correct.

That is part of the inbuilt functionality of the Twenty Eleven theme,. These images are used as header images in the single post pages. You can either use another theme or try creating a child theme.

What would happen if I delete those header images from the server since I have no use for them?

The default header image will be used.
