  • tried 4 plugins – image sizes/Dynamic Image Resizer/Stop Generating Unnecessary Thumbnails/WP Performance Pack – no joy

All set to “0” in Media.

Each time I upload small image 111 x 32 px it reproduces to about 145 x 48 px – even going into edit photo or shrinking it by 1px to 110 x 32 when published still stretches out and blurs to larger.

Is it a function php file setting?

I make that about 290 x 80 – any way to stop wp doing this to images, is it gp related? Would just like to keep them their actual size.

This should be 111 x 32 but even uploading to give example it still stretches out to about 130 x 40 – do u concur.

Thats to do with the screenshot provided – to start i am on a retina mac and my browser zoom was up 20% to make it easier to read.
You see above the image there is the tootip it contains the exact dimensions of the image being displayed – which matches your original image.

Right. I still see an expanded smudged image, not what it should be.
Not sure the resolution from here.
Do you know of a way to stop wp doing this in 1st place so as to avoid the afters.
Check hp. “Best paid” label i took ss of. Compare the two. Had to stretch ss image in as even keepiing actual size it expands it in wp edit. Cpmpare the ss and the label – they look different. Just need to stop wp reshuffling the size

The only thing WP does when an image is imported is to use some compression. Which may effect the quality – ie, image is not so sharp, but should not effect the displayed size

This stack overflow provides the two PHP filters for controlling that quality:

You can change both $quality variables to 100 which will stop it from doing so.
This only happens on upload, you will need to use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to update any existing images.

Brilliant – thanks again David, will explore & implement.
The size is being altered yes even with measurements set to zero for thumb../medium/large in Media under Settings
And in WP Edit I choose “actual size” which still stretches 111px length to 200 +.

How odd – WP only creates the various srcset files ( Large, Medium, thumb ) etc. if they are required. A small image ie. smaller then medium, wouldn’t generate any other src-set images.

If the full size is selected when placing the image in the editor it should display the original image size.

The only time it resizes images to my knowledge is when it exceeds the big image allowance – which wouldn’t be the case here:

Updates to Image Processing in WordPress 5.3

Unless of course your server is using a whacky image processor – i would suggest what you’re seeing is the difference between native browser resolution which will be affected by Zoom vs your native screen resolution and how your paint application utilises that.

The plugin worked perfectly although not that i needed to crop but will come in handy for sure.
Main thing is images remain the “same” now when uploaded. Thank you.
