[Resolved] How to stop ALL the image files?

  • Why is it each time I upload a photo WordPress creates 8 different sized images?
At the moment I am uploading 5 years worth of images – that’s 8 images for each 1 image I uploaded to my blog. [It took 7 hours to download them all]

I size my images Before I upload them. How can I stop WordPress from creating all the extra image files?

Usually wordpress creates 3 – a thumbnail, a medium and a full sized.

If your theme creating the other five? and if so does it need them? ie potentially you could revert to a vanilla theme (say twentyten) , upload so it only does three, and then revert to custom theme afterwards.

Otherwise you could use FTP to upload directly into the uploads folder, but of course you’ll lose the ability to use the various size images afterwards.

I think default is 4 sizes.
    Thumbnail
    Medium
    Large
    Full

This can be changed. Go to settings, media and change thumbnail, medium and large sizes to 0x0. Then when you add media to a post/page only the full size (the size you all ready applied) will be the only file uploaded.

In your old posts/pages if all you are using is full size you can delete the other file sizes.

    THANK YOU!!!!
I have no idea why it’s creating 8, but that will work.
    Thanks again.
